25-player shortlist for the 2017 Golden Boy award

Kylian Mbappe, Marcus Rashford, Ousmane Dembele and Gabriel Jesus are a few of the headlining names to feature on the 25-man shortlist for the 2017 Golden Boy award.

Italian newspaper Tuttosport established the prize in 2003, the aim being to celebrate the efforts of the most impressive under-21 footballer in a top-tier European league over a calendar year.

Last year’s Golden Boy Renato Sanches failed to make the list after an inactive year at Bayern Munich, while runner-up Marcus Rashford is set for another crack at the award after a strong year with Manchester United.

Barcelona’s record signing Ousmane Dembele features on the list but is a huge outsider to win after he was ruled out until possibly the new year with a hamstring injury.

Players from the English Premier League and La Liga take up almost half the list, with both competitions featuring six each, while the Bundesliga and Serie A are the next best represented leagues with eight players between them.
